Cup superb – Porsche Mobil1 Supercup goes into its 15th season
With a record grid of up to thirty cars the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup goes into its fifteenth season. Within ten race weekends in ten countries, thirteen nations from four continents will be at the start. The season opener will be on April 14th in Bahrain. All races are covered live on TV.

With full throttle into the new season
„We are going into one of the best years of the Porsche Supercup”, Cup manager Jens Walther says during the introduction of the 2007 starter field. “The quantity and quality of our drivers and teams is outstanding. Furthermore, with ten races within the Formula 1, a live coverage of TV-stations and with our new sponsor Mobil1 we are excellently positioned.” Soon as seldom before, Porsche published the entry list for the 15th season of the quickest European brands cup. Thirteen teams as well as the guest starters from the UPS Porsche Junior Team and the VIP drivers of Porsche AG will build up the grid of the 400 hp strong Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

Winners and champions
At once five drivers with champion honours from the Porsche environment are recommending themselves for the Supercup title. Richard Westbrook can refer to last year's success in the Supercup as well as on the title in the British Cup. Darryl O'Young comes with champion honours from Asia. Uwe Alzen won in the German Carrera Cup in 1992 and the Supercup in 1994. Tim Sugden enriches the list of the stars with the honour of having claimed the Porsche Cup, the worldwide most important Porsche award for private race drivers, in 2005.

The established ones
Well proved and successful teams, which are at the grid of the Porsche Supercup for years, are providing the majority of the 2007 championship. SPS automotive performance, the runner-up team of the last season, will be at the start with an unchanged crew including the former champion Uwe Alzen and the Swiss Marc Benz. At once three cars are entered by the 2005 champion’s team of Walter Lechner, while tolimit motorsport, the MRS-Team, Konrad Motorsport, Team Bleekemolen and Harders Plaza Racing can be found in the entry list with two GT3 Cup cars each.

The new ones
At present, Porsche experiences a real run on the brand cups. „In the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and in the German Porsche Carrera Cup we will see more than sixty cars”, Jens Walther explains the boom. At once three new teams have entered the Supercup. Around the reigning champion Richard Westbrook with HISAQ Competition a new crew has formed up. As a team colleague of the permanent podium driver from last year, Michael Schrey will drive the second car of the team from the German Delbrück. From Great Britain the Team of Stuart Parker joins the Supercup. The threefold champion’s team from England will be at the start with four times race winner David Saelens. Coming from Germany, Team Schnabl Engineering goes into its Supercup debut season. Behind the wheels are the Czech Jiri Janak and the reigning champion of the Asian Carrera Cup, Darryl O'Young from Hong Kong.

Around Marcel Kesseler and Renato Albers two teams where founded, which arose from the last years Morellato/Jetstream crews. The Golden Spike Pertamina Indonesia Racing Team joins the Supercup with Maher Algadri and the British sports car ace Tim Sugden. The second Asian led team, Racing Team Indonesia RA Beheer, will compete with the two upcoming Youngsters from the British Carrera Cup, Phil Quaife and Richard Williams. HSF team manager Simon Frederiks with the support of the Porsche Zentrum Eindhoven has newly formed his team. While the boss of a Dutch truckage company will be behind the steering wheel himself, the second car is driven by Paul Van Splunteren. The successful Dutch comes from the FIA GT3 long-distance series into the Supercup.

Competing at selected rounds
The UPS Porsche Junior Team with Lance David Arnold and its new member Martin Ragginger will complete the grid of the Supercup at six selected rounds. The tradition of the VIP starts on guest vehicles of the Porsche AG is also kept alive.

Live TV-coverage in a double pack
At once two TV-stations will provide the fans of the Supercup with a chance to follow the action live. All races of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup will be covered live on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, as well as on the German Pay-TV Station Premiere. Furthermore a Summery with the most important facts of the weekend is transmitted by Eurosport 1 in the “Motosports Weekend” magazine on Sunday evening. At the present time, further TV packages are going to be fixed.

Season opener at Budapest
With the official tests of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the German Porsche Carrera Cup the new season will be opened at the Budapest Grand Prix Circuit on March 22nd and 23rd. Beside the tests, also a technical training is scheduled for the teams.
